Recorder Street’s one of those spots in Swansea that’s got a bit of everything—kind of tucked away, but still pretty close to the action. It’s a residential area, mainly terraced houses, so you’ve got that classic Swansea vibe, a bit of charm but nothing too flashy. Some of the houses are on the older side, with the narrow frontages and steep stairs you see in a lot of the city’s older terraces. You’ll probably find a mix of families, students, and a few older folk who’ve lived here for years. You’re not far from the city centre, so it’s dead handy for popping out for a pint in one of the pubs on High Street, or nipping down to Swansea Market to grab some fresh fish or a cheeky Welsh cake. There’s also the Waterfront Museum and all the nice cafes by the marina if you fancy a stroll down to the sea. The area’s pretty practical, too—there’s a couple of local shops nearby, and it’s easy to get around, whether you're driving or jumping on a bus. It’s a good mix of quiet and convenience, you know? You’re close enough to town for a night out, but it’s not like you’re in the middle of all the noise and bustle. Plus, it’s a short walk to the beach if you’re in the mood for a seaside wander. In terms of vibe, it’s a proper local neighbourhood. Everyone knows everyone, and it’s got that close-knit community feel, without feeling isolated. Definitely a good spot if you’re looking for somewhere chilled but with all the perks of city living close by.
Swansea’s becoming more bike-friendly, and there are a few cycle paths that make it easier to get around. If you’ve got your own bike, or you fancy hiring one, it’s a good way to get around, especially if you’re heading to the beach or the university areas.
Driving:
If you’ve got a car, it’s easy enough to drive around Swansea. You’re not far from the main roads, like Oystermouth Road (which takes you down to the seafront) and the A483 (which can get you towards the M4 or out to places like Gorseinon or Llangyfelach). Parking can be a bit tricky in the city centre, but there are a few car parks around—like the one near the Quadrant Shopping Centre or the Swansea High Street station. Just make sure you keep an eye out for the parking restrictions, especially around the busy areas.
*Parking* Central Swansea is incredibly restrictive parking wise but we've spoken to the neighbours to ensure our guests can stay & park in peace. There are a few strict "Permit only areas", please avoid parking here. In the short-stay areas, Overnight parking is unrestricted, so there is no issues with parking here. During the day is "short stay" between 8am and 6pm If you're coming and going, it's absolutely fine, however if you are staying in all day, all we ask is that you park along the left side of the road (as you're heading down it) anywhere from the end of the park through to the opposite end of the houses. You shouldn't have any issues with parking at all that way during your stay with us. Parking Guide Link: https://tinyurl.com/18-Recorder-Parking-Guide
Taxis and Ride Shares:
If you're in a rush or just don't want to walk far, there are taxis around, and Uber works in Swansea too. They're handy if you're heading out in the evening or don’t fancy waiting for a bus.
Walking to Key Spots from Recorder Street:
- Swansea Marina & Waterfront: About a 10-minute walk down to the docks, great for a wander or a coffee. - Swansea Market: A 5-minute walk, perfect if you want some fresh produce or just to soak up the local vibes.
- High Street & City Centre: A 10-15 minute walk, perfect for shopping, pubs, or a quick bite to eat.
- Swansea Beach: About 15-20 minutes, just head down towards the seafront for a nice walk along the promenade.
Swansea’s not a huge city, so you can usually get anywhere within 30 minutes or so by bus, train, or on foot. It's pretty laid back in terms of transport, so nothing too complicated!
